A new busy summer for Alejo and his team, as he co-supervised the projects of two GRÓ-LRT fellows: Ben Amoha (with the blue jacket in the picture below), who monitored CO2 and CH4 fluxes in a previously eroded site where biocrust and vegetation have been growing after the application of fertilizers by the Soil conservation service (SCSI) more than ten years ago. Ben's project title is: Biocrust-based land restoration: biogeochemical signatures from an eroded site in Iceland.
Bonus: small photo (below) of Ben who looks very happy with his two supervisors (Ása Aradóttir and Alejo) during the GRÓ-LRT graduation ceremony🙂
Then he also co-supervised, together with Friederike Dima Danneil, the project of Aisha Wumpini Abdul-Samad: Greenhouse gas fluxes in an agricultural field under different fertilization schemes in Iceland. We can see Aisha in the field and presenting her work just below:
In addition to this supervision, Alejandro collaborated with other projects, including with the ReWet experiment at Lækjarness where Bjarni Sigurðsson (picture below) and Hlynur Óskarsson are leading research on GHG emissions after the restoration on a drained peatland;
...and with a field experiment in collaboration with Melta, where they measured GHG emissions associated to the decomposition of organic matter after the application of bokashi (and other references substrates) (pictures below).
Definitely a busy summer for Alejo and his collaborators!
